Singing, Mommy-Brain Style

10/27/2005

I'm constantly singing to Kewpie. When I'm not inspired to create an original tune on-the-spot, I just alter other people's songs to suit my needs. Funny thing is, they all seem to be songs one might hear on an "adult contemporary" radio station.  For example, last week, since Kewpie had a cough, I was singing "I Wanna Vicks You Up" a la Color Me Badd's early '90s hit, "I Wanna Sex You Up."

When Kewpie was an infant, the lyrics "Don't Barf On Me Baby" worked quite nicely to the tune of "Don't You Want Me Baby?" by Human League (1981).

Steve Miller Band's '70s number, "Big Old Jet Air Liner" becomes "Big Old Dirty Diaper" when that's what I'm busy confronting.

Remember "Shake It Up" by the Cars (1981)? In this household, it's "Sippy Cup."

Today, my brain magically transformed "Only In My Dreams" (by '80s pop trixie Debbie Gibson) into "Oh, I Need Ice Cream." I like my version much better.

(P.S: If you're too young to know any of these songs, don't tell me.)

I used to sing "Here comes the Hot Bottle" instead of Stepper.
You are not alone in your silliness!

Michelle didn't send me, but as you replied after me in the comment game and have to comment at my blog now (poor you), I wanted to return the favour.

Have fun!

Too funny. I do the same thing all the time. Only it's in an effort to wake my 13-year old up. My goal is to be as annoying as possible. It usually works.

Michele sent me...

Michele sent me to your site, Surcie.

I can't relate to most of your songs since I don't have a kid and I stoped barfing years back--even longer on the diapers. ;-)

I can get behind you on the ice cream song though. That sounds like a tasty little ditty.

Kathryn, The Daring One Says:

I remember listening to Micheal Jackson's old school stuff with C when she was a new baby. We stopped because of the bad messages in his lyrics. I mean come on, "I wanna rock with you, all night." Not exactly what you want your infant to internalize. I want to rock with you for five minutes and then put you in B-E-D.

I sooo know what you're talkin' about, and I soooo know the songs too! My most recent creation is to the tune "Unforgettable" as sung by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole (reaching into oldies land) - except I sing... "Inconsolable..." This has been inspired by the teething baby - keep singin'!!!
