Foiled at Lady Footlocker

11/13/2005

Poopsie and I were at Lady Footlocker where I was trying on sneakers while he was sitting stroller, happily occupied by his new book, A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Tree_1I glanced over and saw him studying an illustration of the famous dance scene in which Schroeder plays piano, Pigpen plays bass, Snoopy is on guitar, and all of Charlie Brown's little bobble-headed schoolmates are rockin' out to Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy." Poopsie's head was bouncing in time to the
pulsating thump of music that had started playing in the store.

When the breathy lead vocal began, I recognized it as being that of a certain Cheeto-eating, Federline-supporting Pop Trixie. Seconds later, she began cooing,
You're toxic I'm slippin' under. . .

Soon, Poopsie was singing right along with her.
"Tossee! Tossee! Tossee!" [Trans: Toxic! Toxic! Toxic!]

I wanted to get him out of the store before he went under her hypnotic spell, but shoes I had not paid for were still on my feet.

On the way out of the mall, through the parking deck, and on the ride home, Poopsie continued to chirp, "Tossee!"

Ooh, this is classic! I had to ditch a Gwen Stefani tune while driving when it occurred to me that she was repeatedly referring to, um, streetwalkers.

My poor kids: in my quest to break the evil Barney/Wiggles curse that afflicts all little people at some point in their lives, I have come THIS close to corrupting them beyond the point of no return.

I like your blog, BTW. The themes definitely resonate with me.

Yep, all too true. I'm sure you remember this since it was inspired by you.
